Our Story

The Green House is Carlton’s best-kept secret

Formerly known as Snyder’s Greenhouse, The Green House in Carlton, Minnesota was founded in 1954. Nestled at 210 6th Street North in Carlton, just east of the courthouse and high school and minutes from the road to Jay Cooke State Park, The Green House has long been a place where the community comes to gather, grow, and celebrate the seasons.

In 1986, Jim and Shirley Farenholz purchased the greenhouse from the Snyder family and spent decades growing not only the business, but the traditions and relationships that made The Green House feel like home for so many families.

In 2023, current owners Heather and Kyle Bergherr proudly stepped into the next chapter, carrying forward a legacy built on quality, community, and meaningful customer experiences.

From One Greenhouse to 50,000 Square Feet

From humble beginnings as a small solarium attached to a garage, The Green House has grown into 15 greenhouses spanning more than 50,000 square feet of growing space across over an acre of land.

Every spring, more than 70 team members from across our greenhouse family come together to help customers plant, create, and celebrate the season.

The People Behind The Green House

Rooted In Community

The Green House is proud to support the communities that support us. From beautification projects to local fundraisers, we believe growing stronger communities starts with connection.
